Rule 240. A now discontinued rule by the Civil Aeronautics Board to protect passengers in the case of delays or cancellations of airline flights. There is a widespread misconception that the rule is still in effect; while airlines can compensate passengers whose flights have been disrupted and/or place them on the next available flight, there is no longer a federal rule requiring them to do so.
